The Blackberry phone was developed by a Canadian company based in Waterloo, Ontario called Research in Motion or popularly referred to as RIM. Prior to developing the Blackberry, RIM had worked with the Swedish company, Ericsson, to develop a two-way pager device called Mobitex. This device also paved the way for developing the Blackberry phone.
As mobile phones have since long replaced pagers in terms of efficient communication, RIM had set its eyes to developing a mobile telephone with the goal of easy email access and web browsing which goes together with the basic phone functions. Thus, in 2003 RIM introduced its Blackberry phone which also paved the way for other Smartphones.
The Blackberry Advantage
The Blackberry is always pitted against the iPhone. However, with or without the competition, the Blackberry stands out because of features that are uniquely exclusive to it. One of its earliest and unique features is the push email which you email system has an always on capability notifying you of any new email messages anytime, anywhere.

This comes in two models, the 9860 and the 9810. Both the 9860 and the 9810 models have touch screen capabilities and a physical keyboard. Another similar feature of the Blackberry Torch 9860 and 9810 is they are both powered by the Blackberry OS7. This is the model which popularised the QWERTY keyboard on mobile phones. The Blackberry 9900 is considered the thinnest Blackberry Smartphone in its line and is Wi-Fi enabled. Blackberry Curve
Although the Blackberry Curve looks similar to the bold series, it has certain differences especially in cost – with the Curve more expensive than the Bold series. The Blackberry Curve comes in 3 different models which are 9360, 3G, and 8520.
The Blackberry Curve 9360 distinguishing features are its sleek and thin design and the ease of use it provides to access your email and social networking sites. Its 24” LCD screen and a 5 megapixel camera with a 4X digital zoom function is perfect for storing and viewing pictures and videos with absolute clarity.
The Blackberry 3G, on the other hand, has a built-in GPS and Blackberry maps which allows easy navigation when you want to find a place. It also has longer battery life which allows you 4.5 hours of talk time and 29 hours of music without recharging. It is also equipped with a light sensor technology which adjusts the display according to the brightness of your surroundings.
The other model in the Curve series is the 8520 which is equipped with smooth track pad navigation and dedicated media keys. It has a 2X megapixel camera and also a light sensitive LCD screen. But what sets this Curve model is its size which you can conveniently carry in your pocket.
Blackberry Pearl
This series is similar to the Curve series. In contrast to the Curve, which is ideal for business people, the Pearl series is the perfect companion for your personal use with its sleek and shiny design. Only 13.3mm thin, it can easily fit in your pocket discreetly. Like the Curve 3G, the Pearl is a 3G and Wi-Fi enabled device which can hold up to 10 email accounts. Its 2GB memory can be expanded up to 32GB. A distinguishing feature of the Blackberry Pearl is the SureType keyboard technology which uses a multi-tap system where two letters are placed in one number key.
Blackberry Storm
The Storm is the first Blackberry with full touch screen features. It has the SureType and SurePress technology for ease of use. While the SureType technology uses the multi-tap system, the SurePress technology gives you tactile feedback when you press the screen.
The Tablet Game
Like all other mobile phone companies, RIM has also developed its own tablet called the Blackberry PlayBook. One of its coolest features is the Blackberry Bridge which allows you to connect your tablet with your Smartphone. By using the Blackberry Bridge you can switch screens between your Smartphone and your tablet allowing your Smartphone to act as a keyboard and mouse for your PlayBook.
